The Rest Of God
By A. Lin. Thomas
A few years ago, I was coming home from a four-day mini vacation, when I noticed how clearly, I could hear the Holy Spirit. What astounded me the most, was that I was on a crowded Amtrak Train, but I could hear the Holy Spirit speaking to me as if no one was around me. I had been seeking His guidance on a matter for some time, and He was answering me so clearly.
Sometimes when were in the heat of battle, it’s not so easy to hear from God. You would think it would be…, but it’s not. After fasting and praying, I still had no answers. I wasn’t even planning a trip, the opportunity just opened to me and everything fell into place for me to go. It wasn’t a lavish vacation, just a trip to see a sister friend.
The first day of my trip while on the train, I received scenes for a novel that I was working on. The second day as I laid quietly praying, I could sense the presence of God in a deeper way. The third day, I awoke refreshed in my soul. But on the fourth day as I rode home on the train, my spirit was refreshed as I heard the Holy Spirit giving me direction on a publishing matter.
It wasn’t until I got back home that I realized that I desperately needed to enter into God’s rest; spiritually, physically and emotionally. I was just tired….and from a state of fatigue whether spiritually, physically or emotionally, we don’t function at our optimal best. Just that brief respite was enough to refresh me spirit, soul and body.
Sister Joyce Meyer said it best, in her article: “Let God’s Amazing Grace Make Your Life Easier
The key to having an abundant life in Christ is living by God’s grace through faith. Because grace is His power working in us, enabling us to do whatever we need to do in life.
When we try to do everything in our own strength and leave God out of the equation, we just get worn-out and frustrated by our mistakes and failures. But when we lean on God, we actually enter into His rest and can enjoy our lives, no matter what our circumstances may be.
Hebrews 4:9-11 says, So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest…
Now the rest of God is not a rest from work—it’s a rest in work. It’s partnering with God to do what He is calling you to do by His grace and leaving the part you can’t do in His hands, trusting Him to do it. Hebrews 4:3 says it this way: For we who have believed enter that rest… So we start by believing.”
Prayer:
Father, please help us daily to enter into Your Sabbath Rest, where we can cast all of our cares and anxieties about life and work onto You. Help us to rest knowing that you’ve got our best interest at heart and our lives in your capable hands. May our walk, our talk and the works of our hands be pleasing in Your sight and aligned with Your will. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen!
