What Is a Wife?

A wife is a mate who will stand by your side

In sickness and in health, till death do you part, and with pride

She will make your house a home with tender loving care

Not because she has to, but because it’s only fair

She as well has a job and cannot quit until it’s done

Cooking and cleaning faithfully, even though it’s not much fun

Though the housework may be hard, and the hours extremely long

A praise from you occasionally will help her to be strong

In the eyes of God, she is your helpmate

Not a punching bag, slave, or someone you can forsake

Sometimes she may appear unattractive and weary

But in times like these, show her more love instead of fury

A wife is always there for better or for worse

When you become ill, she then becomes your nurse

The mother of your children, and a friend to your friends

She looks to you, knowing that you are someone in whom she can depend

Girlfriends may come and go, and acquaintances may too

But a wife stands by your side and will always see you through

As the mother of your children, your lover, and your friend,

She will never abandon you; she is there with you to the very end!

What Is a Husband?

Created: 8-1993 & Published by: The National Library of Poetry

A husband is a man who proposes on one knee

With flowers in hand and a ring, he will offer you his plea

To please become my wife and bond with me as one

He will not and cannot rest until his bride you have become

Though the wedding day may be over, and a few years have passed,

He still remains romantically attentive, so you never have to ask

Working feverishly to pay the bills for food and clothing too

He lovingly provides for his family, for that is what he must do

And when sweat soaks his brow, and his muscles ache with pain

He works even harder for his family, knowing he has much to gain

To see their happy faces beaming with love

He gives thanks for his blessings from God up above

In times of anger, confusion, and strife

He still appreciates being a husband and having a loving wife

Strong, yet weak; scared, but brave

A husband is a man who is there until he is placed in a grave!
